A priori the RGB keyboard appears to be somewhat pointless. Nevertheless, I found myself having an uncontrollable urge to own one. In a review of various models the author pondered what reaction people would have if he could take a current generation RGB keyboard back in time to the late nineties.
They could marvel at the progress of computer technology and how far human civilization had progressed 20 years hence. The model I ended up buying was the Logitech G Prodigy. My application of course is serious software engineering. It's also pretty clear that I've been living in a parallel universe blissfully unaware of the existence of such equipment. RGB has been around for about 10 years now and is pretty much totally ignored. If human existence is to improve even further then RGB must be integrated seemlessly into the window context.
The first issue to adding RGB to a linux keyboard environment is that of software support and compatibility. Well the good news is that this keyboard will just plug in and run. If you do nothing else you can use the G's built in ability to run effects directly by ifself.
Searching the web and watching Youtube videos, however, will not reveal the needed, pretty much undocumented, key sequences:.
The very first thing you'll need to do is install gled by Mat Moul to allow "profiles" to loaded in to the keyboard. After attempting to use alternatives, this is by far and away the easiest and most reliable. The second issue to overcome is that only the root user has sufficient security access to talk to the G That's essentially because gled tampers with the USB directly.
Overcoming that restriction was done by using the trusty linux sudo mechanism. Once users in the g group have access to be able to setup the key colors and effects, they can do cool stuff from the commandline.
The first profile needed is for login. This establishes a default keyboard color. For this I selected white for the main keyboard keys, green for the nav keys and blue for the numberics. The "root" profile is simply an all red static color. Essentially it means you can do bad things here by accident.Logitech G810 Orion Spectrum RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review
Sleep profile uses the g's breath effect where the keyboard slowly pulses on and off with all keys set to one color. The color is set to green with a moderate breathing speed. CapsLock overwrites the color profile for the main part of the keyboard with yellow when the CapsLock key is active. Activation is detected by using xbindkeys which is now an installation prerequisite.
Once the G starts doing stuff the question becomes: how can this be integrated with KDE's desktop to become really cool? Essentially the color and effects profiles need to be triggered by various system events. The method used here is to use bash shell scripts which are activated by various system mechanisms.I'm interested in creating a gled package but I don't know how I can make users to migrate to the new package. The changes working in my case but all return are welcome.

Remember Me? Linux - Software This forum is for Software issues. Having a problem installing a new program? Want to know which application is best for the job?Pages: 1 2 Next. I have a problem with my networkspeeddespite setting up all the necessary services networkmanagerDNS caching unbound and so on it is unbearably slow.
Loading of websites is usually fine, although sometimes takes a bit. Mostly, I recognise this problem though when streaming Netflix, Twitch, Youtubelag in videos due to needed buffering times and always only a small amount of prebuffering, live streams lag every few seconds for the same reason, without buffer indication though. All this lead me to posting a topic here regarding slow video speed earlier and closed it after I checked hardware acceleration and codecs, those not being the problem.
Very indicative was also that the problem did not occur for locally played video files but with any player or browser that used online sources.
Anyway, in further analysis I targeted my network settings. I installed conky to have an everpresent realtime monitoring of my current network speed, GPU etc. During the day the general internet speed drops to On a sidenote, it also puzzles me how speedtest.
On the same machine, when dual-booting into Windows, every streams works flawless, same for other devices on the network, only my beloved arch is striking. Disabling Reverse Path Filtering in sysctl and any other hardening rule applied through sysctlto improve general speed, with no success.
Here is my iptables file and my unbound. I sincerely hope that you guys have suggestions of solution attempts I have not tried yet, or ideas what monitoring tool I could use to further pin down the problem. The following solution was eventually found with help from the amazing people below:. Here auto-negotiation was off, which is a setting that allows two connected network ports or devices to communicate with each other and determine the best possible speed they both can run at and then they both automatically adopt the negotiated setting.
This then automatically renogitated or changed the duplex mode of the network interface card settings to full which fixed the slow speed, streaming is now buttery smooth and videos load fast. This setting is not persistant across reboots, though. Thus, this is the symptom but the cause of the issue is not yet found. At least this gives me a workaround to apply.
It seems that the auto-negotiation should be on by default and is when just booting from the arch iso, chrooting into the system. Here's a few videos of LEDBlinky in action.
Sorry about the poor video quality - my digital camera just can't handle the low lighting conditions all that well. The first video demo's a bunch of LEDBlinky front-end and emulator features.
This next video demonstrates some of the Audio Animation features. LEDBlinky can light the active game controls and at the same time use the non-active controls for an animation.
